17 October 2007 Owlstone and Grant partner to launch new vapor generator
- Owlstone Nanotech and Grant Instruments announce partnership for Grant to manufacture the new OVG-4 product line of vapour generators, a system for generating trace concentration levels of chemicals and calibration gas standards
- Grant was selected due to its reputation for producing high quality and reliable equipment
CAMBRIDGE, England, October, 2007 – Owlstone (www.owlstone.co.uk), a pioneer in the commercialization of nanotechnology-based chemical detection products, has partnered with Grant, (www.grant.co.uk), a world renowned manufacturer and supplier of custom and own-brand scientific, life sciences and data acquisition products, to launch the new vapour generator, the OVG-4.
The OVG-4 was developed to support in-house design and test of Owlstone’s core FAIMS technology. Demands for improved gas generation standards led to the platform being made available to customers and to date 22 units have been sold. Partnering with Grant means that Owlstone has be able to utilize Grant’s extensive expertise in areas such as standards testing and production engineering, and Grant will be manufacturing the OVG-4 in higher volumes to support sales growth. Grant specialises in design and manufacture of high quality laboratory instruments.
The OVG-4 is a system for generating trace concentration levels of chemicals and calibration gas standards. It is easy to use, cost-effective and compact and produces a very pure, accurate and repeatable output. The very precise control of concentration levels is achieved using permeation tube technology, eliminating the need for multiple gas cylinders and thus reducing costs, saving space and removing a safety hazard. Complex gas mixtures can be accurately generated through the use of multiple tubes. The OVG-4 is an ideal tool for numerous applications, ranging from calibration of explosive detectors in military and homeland defense to validation of personal monitors in industrial health and safety.
“Given the previous success of the vapor generator platform during in-house testing and in the hands of customers, we are excited to make the platform more widely available through our manufacturing partnership with Grant”, said Russell Parris, Owlstone’s Chief Development Officer and designer of the OVG-4. Billy Boyle, Co-founder and President of Owlstone, added, “Grant was the natural choice of partner for Owlstone. Their proven track record and expertise was perfect to implement the wider production of the Owlstone vapor generators”.
Ludo Chapman, Managing Director of Grant, commented, “We were delighted when Owlstone approached us regarding a partnership around the OVG-4 product line. It is a very exciting product line, which clearly has a huge potential, and we are looking forward to continue working alongside the Owlstone team in the future”.
